With offices in Guelph, Ontario, and on the French Riviera, New Dawn Editions is a translating and publishing enterprise, incorporated in Canada in January 2020. Its goal is to be the premier publisher of French and Francophone feminist and gender studies writing in translation.
Its president and founder, Dawn M. Cornelio, holds a PhD in French from the University of Connecticut, and has been translating literature between French and English for over twenty years. As a Professor of contemporary French literature, Dawn remains current in literary trends and maintains professional and personal relationships with a number of French authors. Thomas D. Wilson, director, is a published author, with over ten years’ experience in book selling and marketing.
No other active North American publishing house specializes in French and Francophone feminist and gender studies writing in translation. As a value-added component, each publication will be accompanied by a free online reader’s guide with information and discussion topics to enhance appreciation of the text by individuals, book clubs, and high school and university classes in (French-language) literature or gender studies.
Aiming to translate and publish one to two books per year for the first five years of our existence, New Dawn Editions will expand to publish additional titles as soon as possible.
In an effort to be ecologically responsible, New Dawn Editions’ titles will be available in e-pub formats and printed only on demand. In Canada, Sisters are you with me is available in print and e-book via Amazon.ca. Outside Canada, it is available in print via this site.
President and founder Dawn M. Cornelio has been translating French and Francophone literary texts into English for 25 years. Beginning as a translator of poetry, her first book-length publication is A Matter of Blue, a translation of Jean-Michel Maulpoix’s Une histoire de bleu. She regularly translates articles and excerpts from contemporary French fiction for French and Francophone Studies.
Having done research on Chloé Delaume’s autofiction for nearly 20 years, before founding NDE, Dawn published Not a Clue, a translation of one of the author’s early novels Certainement pas.
Director Tom Wilson brings to the company many years of experience in the book selling business and in marketing. He is also an author in his own in his field of speciality, military history. His most recent title, No Guns, Just God’s Glory is available in French and English at Orep Editions.
